Head Varsity - Coach Andrew Moten 

Andrew Moten is the Head Basketball Coach at West Gadsden High School.  He is a native of Quincy, Florida where in 1983 Moten graduated from James A. Shanks High School and signed a full basketball scholarship to play for the University of Florida Gators.  Standing 6 feet tall, weighing 175 pounds, he became the starting point guard for the Gators.  Because of his success at the University of Florida, Moten was inducted in the 2006 class of the Chick-fil-A SEC Basketball Legends that was honored at the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament on March 9-12 at the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville.  His accomplishments include the following:     

A three-time All-SEC selection, averaging better than 16 points in each of his final three seasons at UF...The 1984 SEC Freshman on the Year...He ended his career with 1,930 points to rank second in school history, while knocking down 44.5 percent from three-point range during his time at Florida ... Third in career steals (165) and second in field goals attempted (1,572) at UF ... Two-time team captain ... Led Gators in scoring in 1984-85 with 16.6 points per game and in 1986-87, averaging 16.0 points per contest ... He was a member of the first UF team to make the NCAA Tournament, as the Gators advanced to the Sweet 16 his senior season...A member of the 1985 SEC Tournament team and a 1987 fourth-round (72nd pick overall) draft pick of the New Jersey Nets.  Andrew Moten was recently married to Cassandra Pease on April 24, 2010.
